Solar panels in Málaga, what to know
An off grid solar system in Spain is the answer when a property has no grid connection, or when the utility's connection quote is simply out of proportion — common on plots around Coín, Álora, Ronda, Antequera and the Loja area. Unlike an off-grid solar kit bought in an online shop, we size the system from your real consumption: how many panels fit and are needed, which hybrid inverter handles the start-up peaks of a water pump or air conditioning, and how many kWh of battery you need to ride out two or three days without sun. Prices range from around 8,500 € for a small country house with 5–10 kWh of storage up to 28,000–45,000 € for a self-sufficient home with 30–40 kWh, ATS and EPS. We work with Aiko panels, Deye and Huawei hybrid inverters and Mi Techo Solar batteries, and we handle mounting, wiring, commissioning, documentation and the maintenance afterwards. It is the same approach as the Loja project shown on this page: 28 × 610 W panels, a single-phase 15 kW Deye and 32 kWh of storage with ATS and EPS.

Solar legalisation in Loja: RD 244/2019, ATS and EPS
RD 244/2019 governs grid-connected self-consumption. A completely isolated system does not use surplus compensation, but it must still comply with the REBT and be correctly registered in Andalusia. We handle the complete file.
Step 1
We confirm whether the system is genuinely off-grid or grid-connected self-consumption.

We prepare the technical report or project, single-line diagram and panel, inverter and battery sizing.
Step 3
An authorised installer issues the electrical certificate and registers the system with the Junta de Andalucía.

A grid connection quote for a remote plot often exceeds 20,000 €, with monthly standing charges on top. An off-grid system is a one-off investment with no meter charges.
ATS and EPS: what keeps the lights on
ATS — automatic transfer switch
Switches the house automatically between solar, battery and a generator or grid feed. No manual switching, no gap in supply, and the generator only starts when the battery really needs it.
EPS — emergency power supply
A backup output that keeps essential circuits running: fridge, freezer, water pump, internet, lighting and alarm. Ideal for homes that do have a grid connection but suffer frequent cuts.

Off-grid solar on fincas: three real scenarios
Almost every finca inland from Málaga, around Granada and in the Axarquía fits one of these three profiles. Sizing always starts from measured consumption, never from roof area.
Weekend finca
Used a few weekends a month, with a fridge, lights, hot water and irrigation. A 3–5 kWp system with 5–10 kWh of storage covers consumption without a generator, except in winter after several rainy days in a row.

Permanent home
A family living there all year with a water pump, washing machine, air conditioning and increasingly an electric car. 8–12 kWp with 15–20 kWh of storage, a hybrid inverter and an ATS so the generator only starts when it is genuinely needed.

Agricultural finca with pumping
Olive grove, avocado or greenhouse with daily borehole pumping. Here the pump rules: flow rate and irrigation hours are sized first, the house second. 12–20 kWp with 30–40 kWh, ATS and EPS for critical irrigation.

Solar water pump for boreholes and irrigation
A solar water pump is often the first investment on a finca that pays for itself, even before electrifying the house. Direct pumping to a reservoir starts around €2,500 for a 1.5 HP submersible pump with its panels and drive; up to 40 m depth and 30,000 litres a day in summer. With a battery, the pump also irrigates at night and integrates into the off-grid system instead of running on its own.
Deye hybrid inverter: why we choose it
The Deye hybrid inverter manages panels, batteries, grid and generator in a single unit, with programmable generator start and a native EPS output. We mostly use the single-phase 8 and 12 kW models and the 15 kW unit installed in Loja; in three-phase, 12 to 50 kW. We keep spares and firmware in stock in Coín, so a fault is resolved in days rather than weeks.
Which battery size do you need?
- 5 – 10 kWh — uso de fin de semana, riego, nevera e iluminación. Un día nublado de autonomía.
- 15 – 20 kWh — familia todo el año, bomba de agua, lavadora y uno o dos equipos de aire acondicionado.

A rural property near Loja wanted to stop depending on the grid. We designed a custom system around 28 Aiko 610 W panels, a single-phase 15 kW Deye hybrid inverter and a 32 kWh Mi Techo Solar battery bank, with ATS and EPS built in so the house switches sources by itself and essential circuits never go down.
Project progress in Loja
The ground structure and panel field are now installed above the water-storage area. The battery and inverter room, followed by commissioning and monitoring, complete the next phase towards self-sufficiency.
