Air conditioning and aerothermal in Málaga, what to know

An aerothermal system extracts heat from outdoor air through a heat pump and transfers it into the home, or the reverse in summer. Its advantage over an electric radiator or a boiler is that it does not create heat by burning something, it moves heat, which is why it delivers three to five times the electrical energy it consumes. That factor is the COP, and Málaga's climate is particularly favourable for it: winters are mild and coastal temperatures rarely fall below five degrees, so the pump almost always works in its optimal range, unlike inland Spain. On installed pricing, two things should be separated. A conventional split unit of around 3.5 kW for one room typically costs €900–€1,400 installed, depending on the distance between indoor and outdoor units and the complexity of the pipe run. A multi-split system for three or four rooms rises to €2,800–€4,500. A full aerothermal installation, which on top of climate control produces domestic hot water for the whole home, starts around €8,000 and reaches €15,000 in larger properties, depending on unit output, whether there is underfloor heating or fan coils, and whether the hot water cylinder needs adapting. These ranges are indicative: the final quote always comes from a site visit, because real cost depends on the state of the electrical installation, the contracted power and the drainage point. Combining it with solar is where aerothermal changes category. It is a substantial electrical load and, in cooling mode, a very daytime one, exactly when panels peak. In a Costa del Sol home with solar, summer air conditioning is largely covered by your own production, so the marginal cost of cooling approaches zero during midday hours. In winter the balance is less favourable because demand concentrates early morning and at dusk, and that is where a battery provides the load shifting needed. Finally, replacing gas, oil or electric radiators with an aerothermal system reduces non-renewable primary energy consumption, precisely the figure used to calculate the energy certificate, and qualifies for the IRPF energy-efficiency deductions. We size the unit, carry out the installation and supply the technical documentation the certifying technician needs to recalculate the rating. Visitors reach this page through many different searches for the same service: aerothermal Málaga, aerothermal heat pump price, installed aerothermal system, aerothermal for 150 m2, heat pump with solar panels, pool heat pump, air conditioning Málaga, installed air conditioning price, ducted air conditioning price, multi-split price, and the local variants for Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Mijas, Coín and Vélez-Málaga. They all describe the same work carried out by our own team.

Frequently Asked Questions

For a home of around 150 m² in Málaga the usual choice is an 8–12 kW heat pump with a 200-litre cylinder. Installed, using existing fan coils or underfloor heating, it comes to €9,500–€13,500. Replacing radiators with fan coils or adding new underfloor heating raises the budget. We fix the price in writing after the site visit: request a quote.

Yes, and it is the main reason we install both together. Aerothermal is the largest electrical load in the home and, in cooling mode, it coincides with peak solar production, so summer climate control costs almost nothing. In winter demand concentrates in the morning and at dusk, where a battery shifts the load. With solar panels in Málaga the combined payback usually falls to five or six years.

Yes. On the Costa del Sol it is one of the most profitable applications: a dedicated pool heat pump extends the swimming season from April to November at a fraction of a boiler's running cost. It can be integrated into the home's aerothermal system or installed as a standalone unit, and it works especially well on midday solar surplus.

We install aerothermal systems and air conditioning in Málaga city, Coín, Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Mijas, Alhaurín de la Torre and the rest of the Guadalhorce valley, with our own team based in Coín. The site visit is usually within 48 hours and the same team handles maintenance afterwards.

A single-room split unit typically costs €900–€1,400 installed. A multi-split for three or four rooms, €2,800–€4,500. A full aerothermal installation including domestic hot water starts around €8,000 and reaches €15,000 in larger homes. These are indicative ranges: the final price depends on the distance between units, the state of the consumer unit and the drainage point, so we always confirm it after a site visit.

Both are heat pumps, but with different scope. A split air conditioner conditions air only in rooms with an indoor unit. An aerothermal system additionally produces domestic hot water for the whole home and can feed underfloor heating or fan coils, fully replacing a boiler. If you only want to heat and cool specific rooms, a split is enough and far cheaper; if you want to remove gas from the property, aerothermal is the option.

Against electric radiators the saving is clearest, because a radiator delivers one thermal kWh per electrical kWh while an aerothermal system delivers three to five, cutting heating consumption by roughly two thirds in practice. Against natural gas or oil the saving depends on prevailing energy prices, but the gap widens considerably when the system runs on your own solar production. We calculate the exact figure from your real bills, not from sector averages.

Yes, and it is the combination that works best on the Costa del Sol. In cooling mode demand coincides with peak solar production, so much of the summer air conditioning is covered by your own energy. In heating mode demand concentrates early morning and at dusk, outside daylight hours, and that is where a battery shifts the load. When sizing we model both scenarios so the installed panel capacity matches the new consumption.

Yes, because the certificate rates non-renewable primary energy consumption, and replacing gas, oil or electric radiators with a heat pump reduces that figure directly. Combined with solar self-consumption it is usually the pair of measures that moves the rating most. The final letter is always issued by the certifying technician; we carry out the improvement and supply the technical documentation for the installed equipment.

For a home of around 150 m² in Málaga the usual choice is an 8 kW heat pump with a 200 litre cylinder, indicatively €9,500–€11,500 installed. Above 150 m², or with underfloor heating throughout, you move to 12 kW and the range rises to €11,500–€14,000. The price-by-size table on this page shows each tier, and we confirm the exact figure after a site visit.

A ducted installation in a flat of up to 90 m² runs €3,200–€4,200 with three or four grilles. Between 90 and 140 m² the range is €4,200–€5,500, and above 140 m² with per-room zoning it goes from €5,500 to €8,000. Cost depends mainly on the available false-ceiling route and whether plasterboard work is needed.

Yes. Mi Techo Solar SL is based at Calle Arquímedes 86, Local 9, 29100 Coín (Málaga) and works with its own crews in Málaga city, Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Mijas, Benalmádena, Torremolinos and the rest of the Costa del Sol. We handle sizing, the aerothermal and air conditioning installation, the electrical certificate and later maintenance, and the same team looks after your solar panels. Call or WhatsApp us on +34 685 325 739.

We normally install Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Samsung, brands with genuine service support and spare parts in the province of Málaga, which matters when a control board has to be replaced in the middle of August. The work is carried out by Mi Techo Solar's own staff from the Coín workshop: sizing, hydraulic work, electrics, certificate and commissioning. We do not subcontract the installation, and the engineer who commissions it is the one who returns for the service.

In most of the homes we do, yes. If radiators are already fitted we check whether the circuit can run at low temperature; where the output falls short we swap only the radiators that need it for fan coils or low-temperature models rather than lifting the floor. The heat pump and cylinder go where the boiler stood, reusing the drain and most of the existing pipework. The job usually takes two to four days and the home is without hot water for hours, not days.

One service a year: cleaning the outdoor coil, checking pressures, the hydraulic circuit, the cylinder anode and the heat pump's operating parameters. Near the sea the coil wash is essential because of the salt air. You get the manufacturer's warranty on the equipment plus our own warranty on labour and installation, and performance monitoring with alerts can be included in Mi Techo Care, handled by our own team.

Air-source heat pumps (aerotermia) in Málaga, Marbella and Estepona

We install air-to-water heat pumps across Málaga province: heating, cooling through underfloor systems or fan coils, and domestic hot water from one unit. We size the load, install and commission, working in Málaga city, Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Mijas, Benalmádena and the Axarquía.

Cost depends on capacity and whether your existing radiators can be reused; a typical Costa del Sol home needs 6 to 12 kW. Paired with solar panels, the heat pump runs much of the year on your own electricity, which is where the real saving is. We also size heat pumps for swimming pools and handle the Andalusian grant paperwork.
