Can I install solar panels in Spain as a non-resident?

Yes. You need a NIE number and proof of ownership of the property; residency is not required. We arrange the legalisation with the grid operator and the Junta de Andalucía on your behalf, and can keep you updated in English by email or WhatsApp while you are abroad.

How much can I save with solar panels on the Costa del Sol?

A typical 10-panel system produces roughly 9,000 kWh a year in the Málaga region. At €0.20/kWh, and depending on how much you use during the day, most households save €150 to €200 per month, which pays back the installation in around three to four years.

Do I need permission from my community of owners?

For a private roof or terrace within your property you can normally proceed. In a Comunidad de Propietarios, article 17.1 of the Ley de Propiedad Horizontal allows renewable installations with a simple majority, and for EV chargers article 17.5 only requires prior notification.

What happens to the electricity I do not use?

Surplus power is fed back to the grid and compensated on your bill under the Spanish simplified compensation scheme. With a battery you can store the surplus instead and use it in the evening, which is normally worth more than the export compensation.

What do solar panels cost in Spain?

We work with one transparent price: roughly €500 per installed panel (540 or 610 Wp), including the inverter, mounting hardware, inspection and legalisation with the Junta de Andalucía. A typical 10-panel system (about 5.5 kWp) therefore costs around €5,000. At an electricity rate of €0.20/kWh that saves most households €150 to €200 a month, giving a payback of roughly 3 to 4 years.

Permits, legalisation and the IBI discount

Spanish solar has its own paperwork and we handle all of it: the technical project, the notification to your grid operator, the inspection and the registration under Royal Decree 244/2019 so you may legally export surplus power. Many Andalusian municipalities also grant an IBI property-tax reduction of 20–50% for several years, we tell you whether your town hall offers it and help you apply.

Batteries, EV charging and air conditioning

Solar is usually the first step. A home battery (Pylontech, Deye, Enphase or our own PowerHub ONE) lifts self-consumption from roughly 40% to 80–90% and keeps the lights on during a cut, useful in the campo around Coín, Alhaurín and Mijas. An EV charger lets you charge on surplus sunshine, and a modern inverter air-conditioner cools in summer and heats in winter on your own power.
