Rooftop Solar Installations in Málaga & the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol, Spain's 'Sun Coast', is one of the most favourable locations in Europe for solar energy production. Stretching from Málaga to Gibraltar, this 150-kilometre coastline enjoys over 320 days of sunshine per year and an average of 2,900 hours of direct solar radiation annually. These conditions make solar panels here up to 40% more productive than in northern Europe.

The region is home to tens of thousands of international homeowners, British, Dutch, Scandinavian, German, and Belgian expats who have chosen the Costa del Sol for its lifestyle, climate, and property values. Many of these homeowners face electricity bills of €300–€800 per month, driven by pools, air conditioning, underfloor heating, and home automation systems.

MiTechoSolar.com, operated by Mi Techo Solar, covers the whole region with premium solar installations, from solar panels in Málaga city to large villa systems in Marbella, Estepona and Benalmádena. Our team of English, Spanish and Dutch-speaking engineers brings international service standards with deep local knowledge of regulations, permits and grid connection procedures across all municipalities. Looking for a local installer in your own town? Our Marbella page covers that search for the whole Costa del Sol.

The financial case for solar on the Costa del Sol is among the strongest in Europe. With an average solar panel system producing 1,600–1,800 kWh per kWp per year (compared to 900–1,100 in northern Europe), the return on investment is significantly faster. Most homeowners see complete payback within 4–6 years.

Spanish energy policy actively supports residential solar. The IBI (property tax) reduction in Marbella is 50% for 3 years. ICIO (construction tax) bonification can reach 95%. The regional INEA 2026 grant covers 55% to 65% for solar with a battery, with applications from 22 October 2026 (Next Generation EU funds closed on 31 December 2023). The 10% reduced VAT rate applies to all residential solar installations.

Beyond financial returns, solar panels add tangible value to Costa del Sol properties. In a market where energy efficiency ratings are becoming increasingly important for property sales and rentals, a well-designed solar system can increase property value by 3–5% and make your home more attractive to environmentally conscious buyers.
