Installing solar panels in Málaga and the Costa del Sol: the full process

We work across the whole province of Málaga: the capital, the Axarquía, Marbella, Estepona, Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmádena and inland towns. This is the real journey from first call to legalisation with the Junta de Andalucía.

1. Roof survey and real consumption analysis

We start with your last 12 electricity bills and the hourly consumption curve your distributor (Endesa/e-distribución across most of Málaga) makes available. That lets us size the system to real usage instead of a generic estimate.

On the roof we assess orientation, tilt and shading. Along the coast flat walkable roofs dominate, where we use ballasted mounting without drilling the waterproof membrane; in the inland white villages and the Axarquía, Arabic clay tiles are more common and need dedicated hooks.

2. Technical and financial proposal, no obligation

You receive a document with the module layout, peak power in kWp, estimated annual production from PVGIS for your postcode, share of consumption covered, a fixed price and the payback period. Málaga province has some of the highest irradiation in Europe (around 2,900 sunshine hours a year), which puts typical output near 1,600–1,800 kWh per installed kWp per year.

If the home has a heat pump, pool, air conditioning or an electric car, we model self-consumption hour by hour to decide whether a battery pays off or whether surplus is better sold under the simplified compensation scheme.

3. Paperwork: community, town hall and Junta de Andalucía

We handle the full self-consumption file under Royal Decree 244/2019: technical memoria or project, declaración responsable or works licence at your town hall, the Electrical Installation Certificate (CIE) and registration with the Junta de Andalucía's Industry office so surplus compensation appears on your bill.

In homeowner communities, collective self-consumption is approved by a simple majority of owners under the Horizontal Property Act. We prepare the technical memoria and the coefficient split for the owners' meeting.

4. Installation and commissioning

A standard residential installation in Málaga is normally completed in one or two days. We use tier‑1 modules, inverters with monitoring (for example Huawei FusionSolar) and protections suited to the salty coastal air, where corrosion demands the right hardware and fixings.

Before we leave we test strings, insulation, earthing and the production curve, and set up the monitoring app on your phone.

5. Monitoring, maintenance and warranties

Saharan dust (calima) and salt reduce output if modules are not cleaned and checked periodically. With Mi Techo Care we carry out an annual inspection, cleaning, connection checks and remote production monitoring.

We also review the IBI property-tax rebate for self-consumption systems, which several municipalities in the province apply with different percentages and deadlines; we always confirm the current terms in your town hall before filing.
