Shared self-consumption in homeowners communities: how it works in Spain

2 September 2026 3 min read

Shared self-consumption lets a community install solar on the building roof and share energy among neighbours. Very profitable on the Costa del Sol.

What is it?

A scheme where several consumers share one PV installation. Energy is distributed by community-defined coefficients.

Legal requirements

  • Community agreement (qualified majority).
  • Technical project with distribution coefficients.
  • Legalisation with the Junta de Andalucía.
  • Distribution contract among participants.
  • Economics

In a 10-20 flat building in Málaga, 10-20 kWp generates 17,500-35,000 kWh/year. Saving: €3,500-7,000/year shared. Price: €500/panel from 10. See precio de placas solares.

    Equipment

  • Panels on common roof
  • Three-phase Deye inverter in common room
  • Distribution system and monitoring
  • Optional Pylontech battery
  • Brands: Deye, Solplanet, Enphase and Pylontech.

    Steps

  • Free building study.
  • Proposal to the community.
  • Owners meeting.
  • Installation (2-3 days) and legalisation (15-30 days).
  • Request a free solar study.

Where we work across Málaga province

We work with our own crew from Coín, so the same schedule covers solar panel installations in Marbella, Estepona, Málaga city and Torremolinos, self-consumption in Vélez-Málaga and solar energy across the Axarquía, plus inland towns: Cártama, Coín, Alhaurín de la Torre and Alhaurín el Grande. On the coast we size for air conditioning and the pool; inland we always add outage backup with a Deye hybrid inverter or, on shaded roofs, Huawei with optimisers.
