How much you save with solar panels in Spain: real calculation with Málaga data

2 September 2026 3 min read

Real calculation of solar savings in Spain, with Málaga data. No inflated promises.

Data

  • Electricity: €0.20/kWh
  • Production Málaga: 1,750 kWh/kWp (PVGIS)
  • Install price: €500/panel (540 Wp) from 10 panels
  • 3-person home (6,000 kWh/year)

    8 panels of 540 Wp (4.3 kWp):

    ItemValue
    Annual production7,525 kWh
    Self-consumption (60%)~4,500 kWh
    Surplus (40%)~3,000 kWh
    Annual saving€1,500
    Investment€4,000
    Payback2.7 years

    With heat pump + EV (12,000 kWh/year)

    15 panels of 540 Wp (8.1 kWp):

    ItemValue
    Annual production14,175 kWh
    Annual saving€2,835
    Investment€7,500
    Payback2.6 years

    With battery

A 5 kWh Pylontech raises self-consumption from 60% to 80%. Extra cost: €2,000-3,000. Payback: 8-10 years. See batteries.

    Factors

  • Orientation: optimal south 30° in Málaga.
  • Daytime use: more day use, more savings.
  • Tariff: higher price, higher savings.
  • Shading: reduces production.
  • Profitable across Spain?

    Andalusia (1,750 h): 5-7 years. North (1,100 h): 8-10 years.

What the budget looks like in each area

The prices here are the ones we apply in Málaga city, Marbella, Estepona, Vélez-Málaga and the Axarquía, and inland too: Cártama, Coín, Alhaurín de la Torre and Alhaurín el Grande. The gap between quotes is rarely the panel brand but the inverter and battery: a Deye hybrid with 10 kWh lands €1,500–€2,500 below the equivalent Huawei LUNA2000. You get both figures in the free solar study, along with your roof's real production.
